Shirley Jean Ehm, 77, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31st. Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Shirley worked with her husband Paul on their farm in Ashland Bottoms Manhattan while raising her children, and was a dedicated homemaker and mother. She later worked as an administrative assistant at Farm Bureau and AIB International. Shirley was born in Dwight, KS on February 9, 1940, the daughter of the late Hazel Ann (Moyer) and Harvey Alton Heller. She graduated from Dwight High School in 1958. She was married to Paul Eugene Ehm on August 29, 1959, at St. Xavier’s Catholic Church in Junction City, KS. Paul passed away in December 2014. She was a devout Catholic and longtime member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan and participated in the Perpetual Adoration program for many years. She was also active with the Fortnightly Ladies Auxillary club and the over 50's group at the church. Shirley is survived by her six children: Hazel Wilson of Hampton, VA; Theresa Sutton of Manhattan; Paula (Jim) Helget of St. George; Lori Shepard of Kansas City, MO; Gary (Tanja) Ehm of Manhattan; and Bert (Skip) Reier of Springfield, MO. She loved spending time with her 12 grandchildren who survive her, Kelsey, Brian, Zachary, Bridgett, Colby, Casey, Shelby, Derek, Corey, Tia, Desiree, and Leah. Her sister Janice (Melvin) Howard of Junction City also survives her. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, step-mother Rita Heller, step-sister Celia Lunsford, step-brother John Brumm, and her son-in-laws Mike Wilson and Scott Sutton. A visitation will be held starting at 6:30 PM on Friday, January 5 at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home followed by a Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 6th at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan with Fr. Kerry Ninemire officiating. Graveside services will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery~ Elbo Community. The family requests any donations be directed to Seven Dolors Catholic Church Building Fund and may be sent to the church or the funeral home.
