Virginia M. Kennedy, 95, of Wamego, passed away Wednesday morning, June 8th, peacefully, at Valley Vista Good Samaritan home with her family by her side. Virginia Storer was born in Muncie, Kansas on November 28, 1920, the daughter of the late Myrtle I. (Storer) Irwin and Mahlon Alfred Storer. She was married to Warren Kennedy on Dec. 9, 1949 in Manhattan, and he preceded her in death. Virginia came to Manhattan in 1935, graduating from Manhattan High School in 1939, Crum's Beauty Academy in 1940; she attended the First United Methodist Church in Wamego and had also belonged to the United Methodist Church in Olsburg. Virginia had worked as a morning cook at the Derby Food Center at KSU from 1966 until 1976; in 1979 at Phi Delta Fraternity; 1980 at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community; and as an evening cook from 1980 to 1986 at the Wharton Manor. Virginia is survived by three daughters, Liona, wife of Ted Dion, of Lubbock, TX; Marilyn, wife of Dennis Turner, of Clio, MI; Dorothy, wife of Philip VanDuesen, of Wamego; two sons Rocky, husband of Susan Kennedy, of Belvue, KS; Willie, husband of Marie Kennedy, of Wamego. Virginia is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great- great-grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (Warren); one brother Kenneth Storer and Ray Storer in 1977; half sisters, Florence Storer in 1928, Emma Marx in 1972 and Faye MacMurchy. Viewing and visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday June 12, 2016 with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held 10:00 am, Monday, June 13, 2016 at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation in Manhattan, with Rev. Michael Tomson-DeGreeff officiating. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Stony Point Cemetery, 149 S. 78th St. Kansas City, KS with Rev. Bruce Draper officiating.
