Wilma Jean 'Jeanie' Lowe, 64, of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday, October 5th, at Via Christi Health Center- Manhattan. Born in Manhattan on August 16, 1952, Jeanie was the daughter of William H. and Berris D. (Lutz) Gregg. She attended school in Manhattan and graduated from Manhattan High School in 1970 and then attended KSU. Jeanie was previously married to Robert Stevens. They later divorced. On Nov. 20, 1981 in Wichita she was united in marriage to Harold E. Lowe. Jeanie attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Manhattan. Jeanie and Harold lived in Cheyenne, WY for many years where she worked for the Department of Veteran's Affairs Hospital as an Information Management manager.She retired in December 2010 as a GS-14 after 30 years of combined civil service.Following her retirement, Jeanie and Harold moved back to Manhattanto be closer to family.Jeanie was very active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 4343, where she was a past Post President. She received the national award as Outstanding Department President in Wyoming for the VFW Ladies Auxiliaryand she wasa member of the National Council of Administration for District 12. Jeanie was also very active as avolunteer for Toys for Manhattan which enlightened her life and that of many others. Jeanie is survived by her husband, Harold of the home; her mother, Berris D. Gregg of Manhattan; two daughters, Staci (Sam) Smock of Wamego; Samantha Gross (Terry Spencer), of Pisgah, IA; a son,Heath Lowe, of Columbus, NE; a sister, Linda (Randy) Skinner, of Hugoton; grandchildren, Andrew (Jennifer) Lowe, Ben Lowe, Micheal Gross, Katelyn Gross, Jalen Gross, Sophia Smock and 6 great-grandchildren. Jeanie was preceded in death by her father William H. Gregg. Her family will gather with friendson Sundayfrom4-7 p.m.at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home for visitation.Funeral serviceswill be held at10 a.m.onMonday, Oct 10, 2016at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Homewith burial following at the Sunrise Cemetery.
